I am translating a glossary on genetics.
The explanation for the term "frameshift" is an insertion or deletion in a triplet reading frame or three letter codon that disrupts the frame.

The example (in Spanish) is a short sentence made up entirely of 3 letter words "HAY PAN CON AJO", which would shift to "HA YPA NCO NAJ O"

Can anyone tell me if there is a standard sentence in English to illustrate this concept, or can I use any one that takes my fancy?

I am not aware of any standard example sentence, but here is one that I found:

Example:
Original Sentence- THE BIG DOG RAN AND HIT HIS ARM
Mutated Sentence- THE BAI GDO GRA NAN DHI THI SAR M
The sentence doesnt make sense because of the added A in BIG.

In the explanation, I would specify that the addition or deletion of the nucleotide shifts the reading frame during protein translation and results in an altered protein.

It's great to have this medical forum to "meet" other people with different language pairs but the same speciality
