I still pull "all-nighters" from time to time, and it's not unusual for me to work until 3:00 a.m. the night before a large job is due. I tend to underestimate the time it will take me to get everything right. Sometimes I get lucky. Right now I've got one that's going very fast.
I proofread the job I delivered yesterday three times and even found two things to fix the third time around. That took more time than I had planned. No, not any more... | May 9, 2015 |
Over the years, I have become extremely organized (I wasn't at all!) and have gained excellent time-management skills. I also stopped long ago biting off more than I could chew. What really still affects my sleep are clients not paying on time…

My brain simply switches off once it feels it has done enough work for a day. Once it is in switched-off mode, it has no trouble switching to sleep mode...
My health is more important than my work, I must admit, so gone are the days where I would burn the midnight oil for a job... In fact, I can't remember doing that at all AFTER I went self-employed.

Sometimes, if I have a heavy workload, I might get up earlier in the morning than usual, to get more done in the time available. And I might also stay up later too, especially if the daytime shift has been interrupted by things like emails, calls, etc.
Yer, but, no, but | May 9, 2015 |
I said no, but I've just remembered I've been having a lot of translation related dreams and nightmares recently.
The other day I had a dream a witch on a broom was chasing me on a bicycle and the bicycle was powered by the speed at which I proofread. But every time I returned to the text the same mistakes I had just fixed had come back and the witch was gaining on me fast.... (I was at the time combining a cycling holiday with a proofreading assignment)

So yes, it probably does: not the amount, just the "quality". ▲ Collapse
