When not responding to the same old poll for the umpteenth time

No change! As I said before several times: As I am a late owl, the most productive time for me in general is mid-afternoon/evening, but it really depends on a lot of factors: quality of my sleep the night before, job deadline, complexity of the document, familiarity with the subject matter...

My most productive days are those where I get up around 10am, check emails, finish off some things I have due that day, then do something else like the gym, then nap once it gets to eob in Germany, where my main clients are based. I then get my best work done between around 9pm and 2am in the morning - it's partly to do with my family being asleep so me not having any distractions, but I also just seem to be most alert and on the ball late at night.

It's one of the things I love most about being freelance - I always used to be groggy and could never concentrate in the mornings when I was at school or worked in an office, so it's great to now be able to work during my most productive hours and get enough sleep by not having to get up to an alarm. ▲ Collapse

Usually mornings, but I suffer fewer interruptions after 9 PM, so I can usually be quite productive for a few hours in that later timeslot too.

As a translator, I take issue with poorly phrased questions, statements and texts in the best of times. Even more so when the perpetrator seems to be a translator herself. Laziness of mind.

They are based on goods and services with commercial value that are produced, sold and bought.
This article went on quoting someone at Google (a typical Silicon Valley utopian hotbed) who said (I'm paraphrasing) that we ought to measure the 'free' things (like apps to find a taxicab or a restaurant in an unknown city) as part of productivity.
I am assuming the pollster thinks of translation productivity as how many words are you translating per hour or day?
This brings to memory a statement by a certain Proz member who, in her profile, indicates that she can translate 2500 words per day, guaranteed —whatever that means.
Is that how we think of ourselves? Flesh-and-bone machines that yield a number of words for clients? That's a very reductive (and irrational) way of thinking. ▲ Collapse

Mario, how else can you define productivity when we're paid by the word?
Isn't that a Socialist motto, Work more, make more money? Or is it capitalistic? I am not sure.
I don't get paid by the word all the time, certainly not for every job I perform and not by all my customers.
If the point of being productive means working more hours to translate more words a day to make more money, I don't want any part of it. I actually work more slowly because I get better results.
