It's been a relatively quite week for me workwise, which has enabled me to get other things done without too much stress or deadline pressure. Now, I'm hoping not to receive any work today, so that I can have a quieter weekend, although if any does come in, I'll be happy to take it on board. I know that I'll be busy again next week and the week after that, so the few hours of non-urgent work I have in hand right now is just enough to keep me entertained. | | | Muriel Vasconcellos (X) ארצות הברית Local time: 00:24 מספרדית לאנגלית + ... I've reached an age at which I would like to have at least some time to enjoy life. I recently worked 180 days without interruption even on weekends. I am currently on day 30 of another project with another 30 days to go, again no interruption.
The solution might be to work harder and faster but not submit my work before the client's deadline, leaving myself some breathing space - or the opportunity to do something for another client.
Right now, work has slow down just enough for me to breathe a little as I haven’t stopped since the beginning of the year…

Dear Muriel,
180 days without one day off? Is this really so? And you are now in the middle of a 60-day stint? What about your health?! I'm sure you didn't mean to, but you've got me worried.
"No" is a useful word to use at times.
Kind regards,

That little word no is difficult!
Several of my regulars seem to have conspired this week to send urgent work, and one neat little job, only 500 words, lots of repetitions from earlier chapters of the story, also contained two medical abbreviations that I can't fathom... After searching for hours, I have found several possibilities, but none seem to fit very well. Awaiting an answer from the client, heigh-ho.
That has been the pattern all week.

That has been the pattern all week.
Meanwhile I have thousands more words in the in-tray, and when I accepted the jobs there seemed to be plenty of time to do them!
It's going to be a busy weekend, even though I HAVE turned down several more offers, and I am going out for a break this evening no matter what.
Muriel, I hope you are doing it that way: simply shutting down for a few hours and getting a breather. Some people are just good at stress management: you must be one of them.
But take a real, long break soon! ▲ Collapse | | | Klemen Muhič סלובניה Local time: 09:24 מאנגלית לסלובנית + ... Almost no work at all | Oct 30, 2015 |
I am just starting my career as a translator and with almost no experience; it is hard to get any work at all.
Sometimes there's more than I can handle, but often there is nothing at all. It's pretty unpredictable really.

Since I'm being able to save a little money after all my bills are paid, and my wife is unemployed right now, I'd say I have enough work, but I can take a bit more.

If I think about this week, I can say it is sufficient, but in the last 2 months it could be more.
right now I have to slow down on my work as I have a family member who is ill. But before that, I had a very nice work load and was juggling it pretty well!
If you have more work than you can handle, it's time to raise your rates.
If you aren't a beginner but don't have enough work, it's time to check whether your quality of work is good enough for your rates, and maybe also to figure out how you can promote yourself better. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: How do you feel about your current workload?
