Although I may appear to be living in 'Another Country', as in the name of the British public school play that launched many a famous actor, the bottled horchata is pure bliss for hot and thirsty bathers coming off the Majorcan etc. beach.

I may add, in Venezuela ice creams o n a stick are called "polos" and the persons who sell them are called "poleros". They go around neighborhoods pushing a especial contraction like cart on wheels. They only sell ice creams on "polos", little round containers called "tinitas" on a cone called "barquillas.

Note to Adrian: horchata (orxata) is Valencian and is made from chufas. It should be freshly made and local Valencian chufas (from l'Horta nord) should be used. When these are out of season African chufas are used, but as any horchatero will tell you these are greatly inferior. The bottled stuff from the supermarket is rubbish. Appropriation of the word for alien concoctions is to be deprecated.

The definition that mentions "dulces o cigarrillos" is marked RD for República Dominicana. The definition marked Ho for Honduras (as well as Mexico and a number of other countries) specifically says that it's someone who sells paletas.

These things are very country-specific. In the Dominican Republic, among other countries, a paleta is a lollipop or non-ice lolly ("Golosina consistente en un caramelo sólido circular sostenido por un palito"). In some countries it can be either. (All info. according to the Diccionario de americanismos.)
