That's for staying in touch with friends and family. I have a phone and e-mail and that's plenty for my customers.

I prefer: 1) E-mail comm. 2) Telephone or telephonates such as (Skype). But telephone is better specially mobile telephone (Turkish: ''cep telefonu'') 3) Rarely comm. via telepathy plus empathy. Saludos desde Anatolia-Karaman Anadolu'dan, Karaman'dan selamlar

You mean Skype? | Dec 26, 2010 |
In which case yes, certainly, but not for everyone and generally only for quick sales ("you available for 2000 words by Thursday?" - "could be, send me the document"). Very efficient, no problems.

Very efficient, no problems. I use Skype for teaching and quick inquiries, though I prefer emails or telephone. Less interruptions. Saludos! Thayenga

As Ian said, real-time messaging would be like people constantly walking into your office while you're trying to work. I prefer e-mail, which I can check when I'm not in the middle of figuring out a complicated sentence. E-mail also works well since my clients are largely in other time zones: if an e-mail message arrives while I'm asleep, I can respond when I wake up.

I use the Skype chat feature with a few clients, and I actually prefer it to the telephone. In any case, I'm not being constantly Skyped, so it's not a bother. People normally contact me via e-mail.

The situation was: I was doing his job and he was delivering shower of advises and comments on possible changes through IM. I got a terrible headache after completion of this job. It just destruct attention and waste the valuable time to complete the translation. Now I just remain off from all IMs during the time of translation. I have to retain the IM addresses in my profile for the sake of business contact but I really hate to be contacted at time of work. ▲ Collapse

Mostly I use email, but occasionally one of my clients who has me on SKYPE will hail me and ask if i'm available. I have MSN but only use that for friends etc.... you can send files via SKYPE but email is better because you have a record of it being sent and received.
