My understanding is that such things are only good for basic stuff like handling easy conversations with people who speak a language you don't understand at all. If you're a professional interpreter, this gadget won't help you: instead of doing your job of analyzing what the speaker is saying and coming up with adequate translations, you'll be listening to translations produced by a thing with no brain, comparing them with what you heard from the speaker, and trying to figure out how much you sh... Same work, only more complicated. Basic tasks like grocery shopping in Vietnam can be done with a mobile, no need to get an earpiece ▲ Collapse

I wasn't even aware those things existed. Just trying to imagine the amounts of inane babble they would produce is giving me headaches.

...but sometimes I have the feeling that those devices are responsible for a lot of patent translations I tried to study for research purposes.
