Merci Beaucoup,

neutral  AllegroTrans: what about the "y"?

disagree  Daryo: a hypothetical "growling rage" [that never happened] might work but "growing" makes no sense whatsoever - growing from which starting point??? As in fact Göring never realised he's been scammed there wasn't ANY "beginning of getting enraged".

special addition for the "devout followers" of the "literal translations only, please" school of translating, some "background information":

this question is one in a series of questions about a text mocking Göring at every turn.

=>
Göring never realised he's been scammed, so (because of that = the "y") we (and the experts) never had the opportunity to watch him fuming/roaring etc in rage IOW we missed on what would have been a really entertaining spectacle.

"les grondements" are just an ingredient of this "show that we missed / were deprived of"

neutral  AllegroTrans: what about the "y"?

  -> The "y" stands for "in all this story", the "story" being Göring not spotting that he's been scammed.

  -> wait a second - you are seriously disagreeing because you think that in this case ONLY a literal translation can do?
