La siguiente frase desde la palabra "Olegario" hasta la palabra "prefirió" es para mí absolutamente enigmática. Se trata de una situación peligrosa, cuando todo el mundo trata de huír en el único vehículo que tienen. Pero Juvenal se da cuenta de que deja en casa a sus padres, Celeste y Olegario. y decide quedarse con ellos. Lo de llevar a su culminación una retórica es enigmático para mí. Si lo pudiesen explicarme en castellano, lo agradecería muchísimo.

Juvenal, dándose cuenta, de pronto, que el entusiasmo del terror comunitario lo estaba impulsando a huir sin
siquiera considerar que dejaba en la casa de campo a Celeste y a Olegario sobreviviendo para llevar a su culminación una retórica que —amor o no amor— los definía, prefirió el encierro con ellos en el seguro infierno de la casa antes que
aventurarse en la llanura, y haciendo a un lado a los demás que se hacinaban junto a la portezuela, bajó de un brinco.
