Tech/Engineering - Energy / Power Generation

Could I say 'the national grid' (commonly used in the UK to mean 'the electricity supply')?

the power grid
Explanation:
this is the most common term used in the US. There is usually no indication of whether it is "public" or "private". I think "the power grid" refers to the aggregate of local and regional power lines, which is usually an interconnected system of both private and public systems, and generally controlled by some sort of quasi public "power authority". It is often shortened to "the grid" as the meaning is normally apparent from the text. The "electrical grid" is also an option.

the public grid

Explanation:
There is no "national grid" in Denmark:

Quoted from http://rru.worldbank.org/documents/publicpolicyjournal/171ca...

"In Denmark, for geographical reasons, the grid
is divided into two main parts: one on the Jutland
peninsula and the other on the island of
Sjaelland. In each of these two areas the generation
and distribution utilities, mostly owned by
municipalities, formed special-purpose organizations
to manage the extra-high-voltage grids
and the coordinated operation."
