I would nevertheless include the term "enquiry" as well though it is sometimes abbreviated to just 'your due diligence needs' when it is within an accountancy context, for instance. But the term also applies to other sectors than the ones already named in the various answers here - for instance, in Human Resources when one checks the qualifications and references of an applicant for their veracity, when a potential buyer of any good or service checks out the veracty of the vendor's claims.

Explanation:
Ik ben het helemaal eens met de bovenstaande antwoorden, maar ik proef uit je vraag dat je eigenlijk meer wilt weten wat due diligence überhaupt is. Als een onderneming een overname wil doen, of een joint-venture wil opzetten of een fusie wil aangaan, dan wil ze zeker weten dat de boeken/prognoses/etc. van de tegenpartij kloppen. Ze willen geen 'kat in de zak' kopen! Dan vraagt ze een accountantskantoor om een due diligence onderzoek: dan worden alle boeken gecontroleerd en in het eindrapport worden de (financiële) risico's in kaart gebracht. Vaak komen er toch nog 'lijken uit de kast' en dan wordt de overnameprijs verlaagd of dan worden de fusievoorwaarden herzien.

Mocht die persoon van het CV geen accountant zijn maar een ander soort consultant, kijk dan op Google => daar staan ook heel veel andere voorbeelden van bijv. consultants die windenergieprojecten beoordelen voor investeerders. Het is in ieder geval heel gespecialiseerd en vertrouwelijk werk.
