Explanation:
A me suona come " il carattere rispetta ciò, o colui, che è rispettoso" nel senso più ampio credo voglia dire che "chi ha carattere rispetta ciò che deve essere rispettato", cioè risponde al rispetto con il rispetto. Chi non lo fa non ha un carattere di cui ci si possa fidare e non è un buon partito in questo caso.
