特にない場合には、 Explanation: Writing Japanese sentences is deceptively difficult, but here's my try at writing sentences that follows the source text as closely as possible. sentence 1: The Encrypting File System (EFS) is a feature of Windows 2008 that allows users to encrypt data directly on volumes that use the NTFS file system. 暗号化ファイル システム (EFS) とは、NTFS形式ボリュームのデータをユーザーの操作で暗号化できる Windows 2008 の一機能です。 comment: directly を「直接」と訳すと「どんな風に直接だといっているか、間接の逆という意味か？」という不明瞭さをきたす恐れがあるため、「ユーザー『が』」や「ユーザの操作で」などで伝える方がいいように思います。 sentence 2: It operates by using certificates based on the X.509 standard. これはX.509規格の証明書を用いて動作する機能です。 comment: My view is that これは can be omitted if the first sentence and the second sentence are put together.
