English term or phrase: Shortbread
During this Christmas with our mixed Norwegian/English family have had a long discussion about what a Norwegian will call "shortbread". Shortbread has a very strong Christmas tradition, and it is said that the best shortbread comes from Scotland. With Scotland's strong links with Norway earlier, there must surely be a word which is truly Norwegian, which applies to shortbread.

Can anyone bring peace to "between Christmas" for us?

Thanks for your input! We discussed long and late, but believe that this word refers to shortcake, which is in fact slightly different in texture to shortbread!

Explanation:
