Since eastward current velocity is found at the frontal jets in the STCZ, the northern area near the thermal fronts is not appropriate for efficient larval transport to the Gulf Stream region.
The importance of these thermal fronts in the STCZ has also been recognized for various families of marine eels whose leptocephali appear to get transported farther offshore by the frontal jets.
