desi termenul "semiluna" consacrat pentru "crescent" in materie de drapele si embleme, precum si pentru Crucea Rosie/Semiluna Rosie, forma se refera la primul si ultimul patrar al lunii, care inseamna o forma de secera, care seamana mai mult cu felul in care se suprapune umbra intr-o eclipsa. mai exista si termenul de half(-)moon pentru forma propriu-zisa de semiluna, adica luna vizibila pe jumatate
