2.4. În practică se folosesc frecvent următoarele metode de defectoscopie:
- metoda ecoului, foloseşte trenuri foarte scurte de unde, alcătuite din oscilaţii puternic amortizate şi integrate (fig.5.a.), care se succed cu o frecvenţă suficient de mare, pentru a putea forma pe ecranul unui tub catodic cu remanenţă o imagine permanentă. Se folosesc palpatoare de emisie-recepţie (ER) cu frecvenţe mari (f>1MHz). Tehnica de examinare şi apariţia impulsurilor este prezentată pentru un palpator normal în fig.9.5.b., iar pentru un palpator înclinat în fig.9.5.c. Cu 1 s-a notat impulsul iniţial, cu 2 impulsul recepţionat în urma reflexiei la baza piesei, iar cu 3 impulsul reflectat datorită unui defect.

Tot articolul descrie foarte amănunţit metodele utilizate.
Personal, nu aş folosi sintagma "zgomot". Fiind vorba de unde ultrasonice, ele nu pot fi percepute de urechea umană ci doar de aparatura electronică (sub forma unor impulsuri defazate în timp).
