English term or phrase: Adhesion promoter
efinition: A substance which is applied to a substrate to improve the adhesion of a coating to the substrate. Typical adhesion promoters are based on silanes and silicones with hydrolyzable groups on one end of their molecules which react with moisture to yield silanol groups, which in turn react with or adsorb inorganic surfaces to enable strong bonds to be made. At the other ends of the molecules are reactive, but nonhydrolyzable groups that are compatible with resin formulations.
