revealing the code Explanation: Hello, There is a code that only those conducting the study as well as the pharmacists administering the drugs to the study participants know. This code represents a certain medicine and dosage unknown to the patients. After the study, I assume it's revealed it to them. levée d'aveugle = bringing out of the dark See link below. It explains it pretty well. I hope this helps. Reference: http://www.cja-jca.org/cgi/reprint/7/2/158.pdf |

removing the blind(ing) Explanation: In a double blind test of a drug (for example), neither the administrator nor the recipient knows which patients are being given a placebo. There may be clinical reasons for removing this blind, e.g. if the drug being tested is discovered to have nasty side-effects. "After the blinding was removed, recurrence of the fissure was observed in 3 of 52 patients in the nifedipine group within 1 year of treatment, and 2 of these patients healed with an additional course of topical nifedipine and lidocaine ointment." http://www.springerlink.com/content/1mrqfmxhthw8n6vc/ "to test the efficacy of a new preparation of nifedipine .... adverse events that necessitated removing the blinding from the study. ..." www.springerlink.com/index/1MRQFMXHTHW8N6VC.pdf "Removing the blind required both parties to co-operate. The blind was not removed until all results had been returned by all test labs, checked, ..." nc3a.info/Voice/Voice%20Coder%20TP-001 -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 8 hrs (2008-12-07 11:07:36 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- The 3rd ref doesn't work on above link - so use: http://216.239.59.132/search?q=cache:8Sb0I2KRcJkJ:nc3a.info/... |
