Riporto da Wikipedia: le degré français (°f) — à ne pas confondre avec le degré Fahrenheit (°F) —, correspond à une concentration de 10 milligrammes de carbonate de calcium (CaCO3) par litre d'eau (c'est-à-dire la concentration en calcaire) ; le degré allemand (°GH, pour GesamtHärte) équivaut à 10 mg d'oxyde de calcium (CaO) par litre ; le degré américain (°TH, pour Total Hardness) équivaut à 10 milligrammes d'hydroxyde de calcium (Ca(OH)2) par litre.
