A pesar de que no tener el castellano como lengua materna, atrévome a preguntarte si te parecería mal "(…) haciendo referencia a cualquier persona que creyeran (los participantes) que fuera/es un sociópata:"

Es que en realidad no hay ninguna diferencia, a pesar del origen distinto de estas dos formas del imperfectivo del subjuntivo, cosa (que haya dos, nada menos) que sólo existe en castellano que yo sepa (derivadas del pluscuamperfecto indicativo vs. pluscuamperfecto subjuntivo del latín - aunque algunos dirán que por ello éste es más "dubitativo" que aquél).

¿Qué otros tiempos podrían utilizarse?
