Having grown up speaking both English, Swahili and another local Tanzanian dialect, learning to speak another language was not so daunting for me. I was more impatient with the writing part of learning than trying to speak the new language. However, I realise that for most language learners, they find it easier to learn how to write than to throw themselves into the conversation part of it. I am sensitive to this and able to encourage my "conversation" partners not to fear making mistakes and at be at ease to speak and improve this skill quickly.
