Description This webinar is the second part of a series of two webinars. This second webinar is aimed at familiarizing with more specific skills needed for the translation of culture-specific elements in non-literary translation. The whole training, i.e. the webinars and the self-paced session are based on the cognitive-cultural approach which relies on the aspect of cognition and culture, the two most important elements in understanding and translating culture-specific elements. Part 2 will focus on a selected set of techniques and strategies that are most helpful in the process of translating culture-specific terms occurring in non-literary texts other than legal, official and scientific texts, such as texts translated for the media, newspaper agencies and advertising companies. Target audience - Freelancers starting in the translation industry. - Experienced freelancers who want to expand their clients database. - Established professionals who want to add a new area of expertise to their profile. Learning objectives - To learn how to analyse culture-specific elements in non-literary translation based on the cognitive-cultural approach to translation. - To familiarise with the specific skills, techniques and strategies needed for the translation of culture-specific elements in a source text. - To develop the competence to provide proper equivalents for culture-specific terms. Prerequisites Candidates should have solid knowledge of the English language as all the source language examples will be provided in English whereas the target language equivalents provided in the examples will be mainly in German but can be introduced in other languages as well depending on the candidates' language of translation. Candidates are kindly advised to have a pen and a notepad ready for the practical workshop examples in the webinar. All the material needed for this webinar will be included in the presentation whereas extra material will be included in the self-paced training course.
