Update as of September 27 - Scam still going strong - on demand freelance Sep 27, 2024

I received the same offer as many of you, just for an English to Italian translation.

Unfortunately, I even started translating the script (now I’ll have to watch the movie!). However, I didn’t sign the contract because it raised too many red flags. In her email, Pamela stated:

The so-called "law firm," Noble Path Law Firm, sent me a contract. When I visited their website, I found a picture of "Lily Watson," who had contacted me. A quick search through Google Lens revealed that the same photo is used by a model on Shutterstock, under multiple fake identities.

It took a lot of digging to find this thread, but I’m relieved I didn’t waste more time on this scam. Will report this to TM-Town.

Happened to me too Sep 27, 2024

Stupidest thing I ever did.

I signed the contract because I am in desperate need of money.

Is there anything I can do to secure my data? I use biometrics for money transfers so I should just hope they don't do it? What should I do? I trusted it since it came from TM/proz... then it seemed too good to be true and checked, but alas too late.

Dear Eike,

I hope this message finds you well.

We are excited to offer you a project involving the translation of a 145-page movie script (22,117 words) from English to Portuguese. The timeline for completion is two weeks, and we’re working under a tight deadline. As an initial requirement, we ask for a submission of 40% of the translation (approximately 44 pages) within the first four days of the project start.

Best regards,

I've actually signed the contract because was my first "client" (I've just started recently), but later on I searched and found the script online, was some old German movie about a plane trip, so I knew it was a scam, I'm pretty sure they can't do much with the info I send them on the contract, as the wire payment is one way only or something like that, they still can steal my data and make fake profiles on the internet or something idk. Here's the summarized follow-up email of their supposed law agent.

Dear Freelancer,
I hope this message finds you well.

Please find attached the contract for the Movie script translation project with Ondemandfreelance. This contract has been prepared by Noblepath Law Firm, outlining all the necessary terms and conditions for our collaboration.
Kindly review the document at your earliest convenience. If everything looks good, please sign and return a copy. Should you have any questions or require further clarification, feel free to reach out.

Best regards,

Scams through TM Town again?! Oct 11, 2024

@ProZ, can't you set filters in the platform's messaging feature to prevent scammers using well known names/addresses etc. from sending messages to users? This should be a basic feature even on outdated platforms.

Later I was also contacted by her associate from Noble path Firm just like the others.

Luckily, my previous job taught me to always check all the companies in the official government registries, so I checked this Translation report in UK registry - and, of course, it wasn't there, so it's fake.

I also checked the website of law firm https://noblepathlawfirm.com/index.php - and it's obviously fake too.

Funnily enough, it seems scamming is a family business for Mohouds, because I found this: https://www.scribd.com/document/804650636/Contract-NoblePath-Lawfirm - the same contract they sent me and it's uploaded by Ahmed Mahmoud.

Anyway, be careful with scammers. I reported this one to TM-Town.

OP, you can and should report "noblepathlawfirm" here for committing crimes using this web hosting service.

They have hidden their credentials when they registered the site but you can still report them to the registrar by emailing:

[email protected]

They are using Namesilo's services to commit fraud and scams so if you can report them giving all the details you provided on this thread, including about the fake people on the site, you can get the site taken down and stop other people being scammed.

The group behind the scam have several websites all fake lawfirms.

If you look for example at one of the "lawyers" listed, "Daniel Dambeldor" (the scammers are Harry Potter fans it seems), then for example one gets this: https://ahl-alqanon.com/attorney/daniel-dambeldor/

The man in the photo is an Italian model called Giuliano Alborghetti.

-----
And I gave them a funny answer:
Dear Tiffany Mohoud,

Thank you so much for considering me for this prestigious opportunity to translate a movie script of such cinematic grandeur. I mean, translating 22,117 words in two weeks for £5,200? Wow, what an incredibly believable offer! It’s not every day that a total stranger entrusts me with such a sensitive, high-stakes project without ever having worked with me before. Truly, I am honored.

The incredibly tight deadline and your thoughtful touch of asking for 40% of the work upfront (for which payment is totally assured after review) just screams professionalism. It’s almost as if you are so confident in my ability that you didn’t even think to confirm my credentials or experience.

I must also compliment the way you formatted your email—those bullet points exude corporate seriousness and efficiency. You even attached the script! What a treat to receive such a genuine document, which I’m sure is entirely legitimate and not just a decoy for wasting my time.

That said, I do have one concern: Will the £5,200 be paid in Monopoly money, gold doubloons, or IOUs? I only ask because this project absolutely does not sound like the too-good-to-be-true schemes I’ve seen floating around.

Please rest assured that I’ll be in touch right after I consult my lawyer, my financial adviser, and possibly a spiritual guide to ensure I’m ready to give my absolute best to this once-in-a-lifetime scam—I mean, opportunity.

Looking forward to the next installment of your creative writing.

Warm regards,
Peter

P.S
The script you provided is from the movie "Flightplan" (2005) by the way, starring Jodie Foster.
