How do I remove all pre-translated segments from a ttx file and start the work from scratch? | | | Ade Indarta Indonesië Local time: 10:02 Lid 2007 Engels naar Indonesisch re-pretranslate with empty TM | May 25, 2010 |
You can try to re-pretranslate with empty TM. Tag editor will copy all source segments since it will not be able to find any match from your empty TM.

Yes, I have thought of this, but this does suit me. I need to completely remove all the translations. Because if the file is pretranslated, you have source copied to non-matching segments and if you have many segments that are similar, you constantly have to manually copy the translation from TM - it does not get inserted in there on fuzzy match or 100% match if the segment has source copied from pretranslation. Example. I have one segment saying: This is a... See more Yes, I have thought of this, but this does suit me. I need to completely remove all the translations. Example. I have one segment saying: This is a new file If there is no translation in the TM, I have it copied to the target from pretranslation. Then, if the next segment is: This is a new directory and there was no such thing in the original TM, I have the source copied once again. If there was no pretranslated text, I would get a fuzzy match from the above mentioned segment. The same applies to multiple 100% matches. If the thing is pretranslated, you can forget autopropagation. Therefore I need to know how to clean the file totally. ▲ Collapse
You can edit the ttx file in a text editor (basically removing the target language portions and the Tuv Tu tags around the original). I have just tested it and it works, but considering that TagEditor is rather picky, it would be very easy to damage the file beyond recovery...

I'd love to know if there's a way too... it's something I've also come up against! In the meantime, I expect you already know, but just in case you don't, you can avoid manually retyping by choosing 'get translation' (in my version the keyboard shortcut is alt+shift+ins) and then just amending it as you would do if working 'normally'.... ... I'll track this query to see if anyone does come up with a proper solution though!! all the best, Helen | | | Lubos Valkovic Local time: 05:02 Engels naar Slowaaks ONDERWERPSTARTER
thanks helen, i knew of the button but had no idea of the shortcut. -if anybody comes up with anything else, do drop a line here, thx | | | I would try to use SDLX in this situation. | May 25, 2010 |
Hi! Below is a rather complicated way to solve your problem, which I would definitely use. Basically you need to use the Autopropagate feature, which is present in SDLX but absent in TagEditor. So why not use SDLX instead? 1. Convert your ttx to itd. To do this you will need to use 'Exchange' utility in SDLX. It offers an option 'Convert TagEditor to SDLX'. You will receive the itd file with your pretranslated segments set as 100% matches (gold-colored). ... See more Hi! You will receive the itd file with your pretranslated segments set as 100% matches (gold-colored). 2. In this itd file click Translation Memory>Apply (Ctrl+Shift+A) while no TM is actually open. Do not forget to set 'Copy source on no match' flag. This will give you a ready to work itd file with no pretranslated segments. 3. Translate the file in SDLX with Autopropagate option enabled. In fact this is the option (lacking in TagEditor) that you need to deal with the unnecessary pretranslated segments easily. You will have to translate only one instance of a frequently repeating segment, and the translation will be copied into all the instances of this segment at once. 4. Convert itd back to ttx (Save as). Your client will never know Hope this helps. I tried this sequence in SDL Trados 2007 - worked perfectly. Regards, Rostyslav ▲ Collapse
You might also try using a macro editor (Autohotkey, GlovePie, AutoIt etc.) to output the shortcuts to open the segment and restore source segment repeteadly. It is quite fast, even for longer documents. Here is the script for Autohotkey - press F9 to start, F10 to stop: ~F9:: Loop { Send !+{Home} Send !{Del} if GetKeyState("F10") break } return

Thanks for all your great ideas. Just have to ask a "stupid question" - how do I run this scrips that has been suggested? I think it's just what I need for my document too... /Linda | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » remove pretranslated segments from ttx Trados Business Manager Lite | Create customer quotes and invoices from within Trados Studio
