Italian term

Non-PRO Italian to English Other Education / Pedagogy Dissertation
I am translating a dissertation which includes some numbers written in words. After the numbers, in parentheses, it indicates that those numbers are to be written out in words. Now, I know that this phrase literally means "in letters", but, formally how would this best be translated?
It may just be late and it is obvious, but I just cannot decide how this would best be phrased (in English)for a formal document. I would appreciate your ideas on this!

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "This was a difficult choice - all of the answers were good choices. I decided on "written out in words" as being the most complete manner of expressing this. Mille grazie a tutti. "
