"Una serie de coincidencias que diò lugar a un “ida y vuelta “ entre XX y XX muy interesante. "
Se refiere a un intercambio de ideas entre dos culturas, dos países. La expresión ida y vuelta es muy común en Argentina. Sin ser slang es coloquial por eso está entrecomillas ya que el texto es acad´´emico.
No se me ocurre nada equivalente en inglés. Gracias!

This is the best I can come up with at the moment. It gets the point across. "back and forth" is more the sense you're looking for for than "round trip" which would be the more common translation for "ida y vuelta"
