Discussion

Aisha Maniar Apr 20, 2006:
I don't really see the difference between "after a while" and "a short period of time", as "a while" = "short period of time". Please see my note added below. Thanks.
Abdul-Rahman (asker) Apr 20, 2006:
Enlightenment Needed I told Rbek who work with me on the same project that the adv of time (after a while) doesn't give the sense of a span of time that suits the actions done later by our hero. I prefer (after a short period of time) or sth of that sort.. What do you think, guys? Thanks for help

the ليست بالطويلة ولا بالقصيرة bit reflects the (flowery) writing style of the original writer as the text is literary in nature. This information is superfluous in the English as it doesn't really mean anything at all; English is not a very flowery language at all, especially the modern language. The text you're dealing with is not written in medieval classical Arabic and hence an English translation need not reflect that kind of language - i.e. translation into archaic, flowery English
