This is a question to a coach's strategies for a championship. I believe he is either making reference to the players in the line-up or the strategy for playing along the perimter line.

I do fully agree with 'rbd'. That should mean defense (not only defenders' line). In other words, when an opposite party attacks, not only defenders care about their goal, but midfielders and even strikers (very seldom) do so.

Because of possible problems with encoding: supposedly, coach suggests that side defenders and forwards have similar characteristics.
