"Precautionary attachment is used in emergency cases to place goods under the protection of the court: the situation is frozen in order to safeguard any subsequent enforcement. The attachee no longer has control over the goods and cannot sell them or give them away. When a debtor’s goods are attached in execution of a judgment they are sold and the proceeds given to the claimant. The claimant has no right to the attached goods themselves, only to the proceeds of their sale."
