'There was plenty of light' is perhaps more common in English.

The Danish expression is often used to mean that there was 'enough for anyone', not 'just barely enough'.

The light is intense on a clear day, and would be dazzling at times.

You may need to rephrase it to make the text flow, but that is what is meant.

As the other room s were being described as having a kind of dimmed light
