"Ces homes en mal de"...in everyday French might indicate that they are trying just a little to hard to impose their own logic....I was wondering if the dancers in your text are being a little unfairly classified by the doctors..?

: interesting - but look at the definition of "rationalisant" rather than "rationalisation" - it infers "standardisation" - so in fact the "men" had no "standard" system/model by which they could categorise hysterics in a diagnostic sense.

Certainly "classification rationalisante" is not a stock phrase in French and I wouldn't look for any deeper significance. Your text is referring to the work of Charcot. In his time, most "mad" women were categorised as "hysterical". The very origin of the word infers a purely female illness. Convenient.
