"walk-over", of course, if people actually walk around the routes.
Anecological walk-over survey was undertaken of the route of the proposed accesstrack (henceforth referred to as 'the site') and the surrounding area (within 10metres of the site). During this survey, the vegetation to be directly affected bythe proposed works was examined, and evidence of, or potential for, protectedspecies was searched for, with particular attention given to the possible presenceof badgers

"Environmental" is a broad term. It was the word растительности, in particular, that pushed me towards using "ecological". The more there is about species and their interactions with each other and with their environment, the more inclined I'd be to use the word "ecological" - but I don't know how prominent this aspect is in your text.
