Spanish term

el aliento de su reflexión

Spanish to English Social Sciences International Org/Dev/Coop
Quizá el artículo pudiera tener mayor impacto e interés si ampliara el aliento de su reflexión respecto de la creación de este nuevo tipo de organizaciones en otros campos y sus problemas potenciales de responsabilidad.

Carl Stoll Aug 1, 2010:
I TOO SMELL A RAT The definitions of "aliento" in the DRAE do not include anything that would even remotely support the translation "scope". Perhaps that's what she means, but it's not what she wrote.
Patricia Rosas (asker) Aug 1, 2010:
no, original material It's just a brief critique (dictaminación) of an article that was submitted for presentation at a conference, so no, it's not a back translation. The author also mentioned that this is a draft--he'll send a finalized version in a day or two, so it may have been a slip on his part (or perhaps not!). Thanks for your answer...

I've never seen aliento used in this context, which makes me wonder if this was already a translation itself ...

Spanish term (edited): [ampliara] el aliento de su reflexión [respecto de]

[expanded] his thoughts [on] (don't translate "aliento")

I think 'expanded' already covers whatever "aliento" means. I don't think it's necessary in English.
Peer comment(s):

agree Richard Boulter : Exactly. I just like 'thoughts' better than 'thinking'.

Spanish term (edited): el aliento de su reflexión...

the author’s thinking...

Rough draft of your text:

"Quizá el artículo pudiera tener mayor impacto e interés si ampliara el aliento de su reflexión respecto de la creación de este nuevo tipo de organizaciones en otros campos y sus problemas potenciales de responsabilidad."

"I reckon/think this article could have a greater impact and call more attention if there was a better understanding of the author’s thinking when it comes to the creation of these new types of organisations in uncharted waters, and the potential liabilities involved in such endeavours."

I know you didn't ask for this, but I felt like doing it! :-P
