Odded is right, more context needed... If Odded is right and it refers to manual labour, moving patients around, then the closest thing in English would be "(Hospital) Porter". As the name suggests, their role involves moving patients and supplies around hospitals/surgeries.

What context?
What kind of text are we talking about? What surgery are we talking about? Maybe they need a lad in the OR to move the patient around or to do some kind of manual labor indirectly related to the surgery?

A little context please... Just guessing but if this is taken for instance from a protocol of some kind, an account of a certain surgery etc. "בחור" might very well mean "a fellow/guy/dude/person/civilian/non-professional" etc. Maybe there was someone there who had no specific role and his presence is merely noted for accurate reporting or maybe he was there because they were understaffed (field surgery?), but had no medical training.
