Actually my problem is not with "withdrawal" for itself, but with its meaning in the next sentence. It is a condition for inclusion in a clinical study: (last word in the sentence)
"Metastatic prostate cancer with progressive disease post-surgical castration or during androgen suppression therapy (or complete androgen blockade therapy and withdrawal) "
Here is slightly different version of same sentence in another document from same series:
"Documented metastatic prostate cancer with progressive disease post surgical castration during androgen suppression therapy or during complete androgen blockade therapy and withdrawal."
Is withdrawal here referring to withdrawal form "complete androgen blockade therapy" - הפסקת טיפול
Or withdrawal relates to disease - נסיגה? - This wouldn't correspond with the beginning of the sentence.
Or something else?

According to the second sentence, I believe withdrawal here refers to receiving and withdrawing from androgen blockade therapy.

This refers to "antiandrogen withdrawal effect" which is an unexplained phenomenon where stopping the medication (anti-androgen) actually helps the patient for a short while.
In Hebrew I found onr reference to "תגובת גמילה מאנטיאנדרוגנים" which sounds like the best translation to me, but you should get by with "הפסקת הטיפול" as well as long as you include a refernce to it being a specific effect because "withdrawal" here doesn't refer to the act of withdrawing but to the resulting effect on the patient.

| Very interesting, I didn't think at all in this direction. The only thing is that it says "during" a blockade therapy. And withdrawal refers to condition after therapy had been stopped. Maybe they meant to say "progressive disease.... during blockade therapy, followed with improvement upon therapy withdrawal"? What do you think? |

ראשית אני מבקש להתייחס למילה blockade שבהקשר הזה יש לתרגם אותה כ"חסימה". הסיומת של המשפט מציגה שלוש חלופות תוצאתיות לניתוח הסרת סרטן הערמונית:
טיפול ע"י דיכוי יצירת אנדרוגן
טיפול ע"י חסימה כוללת של יצירת אנדרוגן
נסיגה (של הסרטן).

נראה לי שאת צודקת צריך להבין את הדברים כך שהמחלה מתקדמת למרות כריתת הערמונית במהלך טיפול לדיכוי אנדרוגני, או במהלך טיפול חסימה אנדרוגנית שהופסק.
כלומר לבנות המשפט מתוך הבנה שמדובר אכן בהפסקת טיפול.
בהצלחה.

| שלום אמנון, אני לא רואה בעיה בתרגום שאר חלקי המפשט - ברור שמדובר בטיפול חסימה אנדרוגנית. אבל אני בספק ש אפשר לתרגם כאן withdrawal כנסיגה של הסרטן, בגלל שמדובר בחולים, המציגים, כאמור, מחלה גרורתית מתקדמת למרות כריתת הערמונית ולמרות הטיפולים - או טיפול לדיכוי אנדרוגני, או טיפול חסימה אנדרוגנית. כך שככל הנראה יש כאן משמעות אחרת. |
