Arabic term

الجلود الكثيرة

Arabic to English Art/Literary History History of the Islamic Civilization
This is the entire sentence:

و الا فلو استقصينا كل ما اثر المسلمون في الارض من رائع و بديع لم تسع ذلك الجلود الكثيرة, المرصوفة طبقا فوق طبق

I'm having trouble figuring out the entire sentence actually, but particularly this phrase. It's from an excerpt of a book about the history of Islamic civilization.

Discussion

You are welcome Dareth :-)
maybe "investigated" rather than "studied" would fit the context more.
Dareth Pray (asker) Nov 3, 2011:
Thanks Hassan! I understand where they were going with that now. They're saying that if they studied everything the Muslims left behind, it would be enough to fill stacks and stacks of of parchment. My mind was stuck in a different direction because of the way the prior sentence was written.

many bulky books

I checked up the text and the word was
الاجلاد
and not الجلود
and here the translation can be bulky books or my colleague suggested earlier many volumes.
