English term

Christian name

English to Latvian Other Linguistics
Which of the two translations is more appropriate - 'vārds' or 'kristītais vārds'? The word appears in the English test. Can it be considered to be a mistake if the person translates it as 'kristītais vārds'? In my opinion, 'kristītais vārds' is 'baptized name'.

"The term Christian name is often used as a general synonym for given name. Strictly speaking, the term applies to a name formally given to a child at an infant baptism or "christening". (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Given_name)

Vispārīgā nozīmē arī vārds. Tulkojums noteikti būs atkarīgs no konteksta

Ņemot vērā kontekstu, ko beidzot sniedzāt en-ru pārī apspriestajā identiskajā jautājumā, protams, tulkojums būs "vārds".
