German term

Berufsparcours

German to English Tech/Engineering Human Resources Training
I know what this is but I don't know if there is such a thing in English-speaking countries so struggling to find a term for it. Basically it is series of "stations" (e.g set up on tables in school halls or other large premises) where students "try out" various job-related tasks to give them an idea if they would like or are suited to a certain skilled occupation. The same kind of thing is also set up at various recruitment fairs/training information events etc. See links for information about how it works.

In my context it is part of an information fair about training opportunities. I am thinking along the lines of "job sampling stations" but would welcome suggestions or any tips about similar setups in English-speaking countries. Never heard of anything like this in Australia, although kids following vocational programs at school do get the chance to "try out" various trades.

Discussion

Patricia Will (asker) Mar 5, 2013:
Like your suggestion Norbert, especially the walkabout - but the context is not Australian so I have actually used "circuit" instead.
Norbert Hohl Mar 3, 2013:
In an Australian context 'job matching walkabout' or 'skills matching walkabout' could work. If the context is broader then perhaps 'job/skills matching stations'.
Wendy Streitparth Mar 2, 2013:
vocational skills assessment course/stands
Patricia Will (asker) Mar 2, 2013:
For more context: Der Berufsparcours gab die Ausbilder die Möglichkeit, besondere Fähigkeiten bereits bei den Interessenten zu entdecken und bei der Wahl des Ausbildungsberufes zu beraten.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I think this comes closest to what it is in this context. Also like Norbert's suggestion of skill/job matching stations. "

Career Day

At least that's how those events are called in the US.

Definition according to Wikipedia:

"Career Day often refers to a day in school where students learn about different careers and vocations."

Note from asker:
Thanks, but the Berufsparcours is only one element of what they call the Ausbildungsmarkt, where exhibiting companies provide information about training opportunities. I am looking for a word for this particular setup with the various tables for trying out different skills.

hands-on careers fair

"hands-on" may be a possible solution to get over the idea of attendees taking part and trying things out.

http://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/1373513.print/
HUNDREDS of teenagers in Bicester learnt skills from bricklaying to fashion modelling at a hands-on careers fair.

HANDS-ON APPROACH INSPIRES STUDENTS
There were also hands-on activities as part of the day which were designed to inspire students to consider a career in the sector.

What about the "hands-on stands of the careers fair"?
Note from asker:
The whole fair isn't hands-on, just this one part/physical section of it. But I guess I could say something like "the hands-on section provided by X....
Yes, this is a whole section, maybe a separate tent? The hands-on job sampling section????
