français term

1er Inspecteur

français vers anglais Autre Général / conversation / salutations / correspondance police rank
I am not sure what this police rank is. It is in a translation to do with the Department of International Judicial Assistance at the office of the Judicial Police in Luxemburg. Next to the name of the police officer it is written '1er Inspecteur'. If anyone can tell me what this police rank is that would be great. Thank you.

Discussion

writeaway Jun 25, 2013:
Thank you for letting us know the correct translation for your context. But none of us could have possibly known. Looks like another case where only the person with the text was in a position to find out.
Melissa Bennett (asker) Jun 25, 2013:
Thank you everyone for your comments. I have found out that the translation is 1st Detective Sergeant.
writeaway Jun 23, 2013:
Hi Jessica Doing a bit of sleuthing, Asker seems to be in UK. Of course the job may be for a readership somewhere else.
Jessica Noyes Jun 23, 2013:
It also depends what country this is for.

neutral writeaway : is it a reliable translation? there is little doubt about 'inspector' but first rank???

you are right - there are lots of references to "inspecteurs principaux 1er en rang" but not for police officers per se, it seems that 1st rank does mean chief...
neutral AllegroTrans : the term doesn't appear in your reference.....
