Italiano term

cremoso

Da Italiano a Inglese Marketing Alimenti e Bevande
bar advertising:
Classico, l'espresso quotidiano, il caffè intenso e cremoso, dal profumo deciso

I had originally decided to put "creamy" but wondered whether this would give the impression that there was cream in the coffee. I have found espresso described using various adjectives, such as thick, foamy, and of course, creamy. Also "with a creamy head". Any coffee experts out there?

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

with a rich crema

Since we're talking about a classic espresso, I take the adjective 'cremoso' as denoting a healthy crema on the top. I've noticed the term has entered into the advertising of products such as pod coffee makers and coffee blends. I believe it would be suitable for an audience of knowledgeable espresso drinkers.

Bursting with intensely rich flavours and topped off with a velvety layer of crema, it’s our cheekiest coffee yet!

agree philgoddard : Although strictly speaking this is down to the machine rather than the coffee.

Thanks... it's the four Ms... macchina is absolutely fundamental, but the miscela, macinatura and the mano (of the barista) also have to be right.
agree simon tanner : entirely agree. I translate for a major espresso machine manufacturer, and they specify that I use "crema" in Italian. Espresso drinkers tend to appreciate the "Italian touch", understandably, and would be familiar with the term

creamy

Personally I'd go with creamy. I don't think it could be confused with actual cream and it's a very common expression. E.G:

frothy

I agree that "creamy" although literally correct would give the impression in english of having used cream in the coffee. Perhaps "frothy" could be a valid alternative?

dense

cremoso as in having a thick, dense texture not watery. Agree that creamy is misleading - maybe you could borrow "rounded" from wine talk.
