The following sentence occurs at the end of a series of letters written by an attorney to various representatives of an an opposing party in a lawsuit in which he states that he will take further legal action to defend his clients' interests if he receives no response from them within one week (i.e., toward the end of settling the case before it comes to trial):

La presente comunicación es una reclamación formal interruptiva de la prescripción de las acciones que pudieran corresponder.

My attempt:

***The present communication is a formal claim that would obviate any further legal actions that might otherwise be appropriate.***

In other words, my understanding here is that the communication is part of the previously stated invitation to the opposing side to settle the matter out of court, and thus render further legal action unnecessary.

Correct? Incorrect? Partially correct? So off as to be of only comic value?
