I can't seem to find a translation for 'valencias' anywhere but here's how it appears in the text.
'De acuerdo con la experiencia de los enfermeros, mantener el almacén general y el stock de las valencias siempre con acceso limitado a las personas autorizadas...'
The article is about care homes.
Many thanks.

stocks of medicinal/pharmacological products
Valence (pharmacology), refers to the efficacy (of certain vaccines and antitoxins). I assume that here they are referring to the products per se rather than the attribute, although I may be wrong.

Or simply "drugs".

I'm not sure if it would be a case of metonymy or synecdoche, probably the latter (a figure of speech in which a part is used to represent the whole).

DRAE: valencia.(De valer)...
2. f. Quím. Número que expresa la capacidad de combinación de un átomo o radical con otros para formar un compuesto. La unidad se atribuye al hidrógeno.

Could be "healthcare products", although to me it suggests drugs (keep the general storage facility and drugs cabinet off limits...). It would be a rather odd usage to me, but I've come across much weirder things!

Perhaps they mean that keeping pads etc locked away with the rugs etc is inconvenient? It should be apparent from the rest of the text that follows the sample provided...

Note from asker:
Thanks for your help Neil. Do you think 'healthcare products' would work? They are specifically talking about managing incontinence (sorry, I forgot to mention that as I thought valencia might be specifically related to that). Best wishes |
Yes, I see what you mean. I think they just mean limiting access to authorised personnel is the best way of managing these types of stocks. Many thanks again! |
