German term

Drosselverteiler

German to English Tech/Engineering Metallurgy / Casting smelting
The translation is from a tender for the supply and installation of smelting equipment and the associated fixtures. The text is unfortunately very telegraphic (it's a summary list of the goods and services to be provided).

The is one of a number of expressions that I can't understand in the document with the very little context that I have.

At the end of a list of work connecting up condensator racks (Kondensatorgerüst), converters (Umrichter), transformers (Trafo), etc. The list has the following "sentence":

"Ausgenommen Extras Kühlung wie z. B. Jochkühlung oder Drosselverteiler usw."

Does anyone know what a Drosselverteiler is in this context?

This is the full list of work to be done:

Anschluss 3 x Kondensatorgerüst
Anschluss 2 x Umrichter
Anschluss  3 x FS 60 Ofen
Anschluss  2 x Trafo
Anschluss  1 x Hydraulikkühlung
Anschluss 1x Kompensationsgerüst (40h Stellen, Ausrichten, Befestigen, Verkabeln + Kabelleiterbau)
Einbau Verteilerschrank für zentrale 400V- Einspeisung
Einbinden aller 400V- Verbraucher in die Einspeisung
Einbinden aller Komponenten an einen zentralen Erdungspunkt

Ausgenommen Extras Kühlung wie z. B. Jochkühlung oder Drosselverteiler usw.

Can anyone help me here?

TIA

Jaime

Discussion

Jaime Hyland (asker) Oct 29, 2014:
Hi Bernd! Are you sure? The text has stuff about smelting and casting all over it!

Though, you're probably right, this term appears to relate only to a cooling system, and not directly to the smelting process itself!
Bernd Runge Oct 29, 2014:
Jaime maybe you want to chose another 'field' for your question(s) as this has nothing to do with metallurgy ;-)

Metering valve distributors (metering device with restrictors)

• Pumpendruck
• Betriebsviskosität des Öls
• Aufbau (Geometrie) des Zentralschmiersystems
• Leitungsquerschnitte
• Gegendruck hinter dem Drosselverteiler

Metering valve distributors
Metering valve distributors are hydraulic resistors. The following factors affect the metered quantity:
• Pump pressure
• Operating viscosity of the oil
• Geometry of the centralized lubrication system
• Line cross-sections
• Back pressures downstream of the metering valve distributor

metering distributor

With this limited context I'm taking a guess, but metering distributor would not be out of place with the other parts listed. They are used in automated lubrication systems, a type of hydraulic metering valve.

Very quick of the mark Derek! I've sent the translation provisionally using your gloss. I'll pass the options onto the proofreader when I've done a bit more research. You helped me get the first draft in just on time! Thank you very much!

I beg your pardon "butterfly-valve"!
Note from asker:
Thanks very much Marcombes! I now have an embarrassment of choice. I hope the internet will help me to sort out which term is best in the context!
Can I correct you on "butterfly valve", though? There is no hyphen in English. That appears to be just a bad German habit. "butterfly" is simply an adjective conditioning the noun "valve". ;o)
Peer comment(s):

disagree Derek Ferrari-Frankland (X) : Butterfly vale is Drosselventil. Drossel can also be choke or throttle or ring spinner, but not in this context.
