Spanish term

distribución

Spanish to English Bus/Financial Wine / Oenology / Viticulture
Sorry to bother everyone with what is apparently a simple term but I am really not sure how to translate it here. It seems to me that what it really means is "sector" or "industry" but if that is so why didn't they say that in Spanish? Or would it be something along the line of "supply chain"? From an academic article on adapting wine production to consumer preferences:

distributor

An entity that buys noncompeting products or product lines, warehouses them, and resells them to retailers or direct to the end users or customers. Most distributors provide strong manpower and cash support to the supplier or manufacturer's promotional efforts. They usually also provide a range of services (such as product information, estimates, technical support, after-sales services, credit) to their customers.

agree Jill Ananyi : I think distributors in this case means both wholesalers and retailers, which appears to be the meaning.

the marketing

Please consider the term as a whole, involving both what we know as "marketing", as well as the distribution of the products.

supply chain

My feeling is that the term is pretty broad and includes producers, distributors, marketers, etc. - everyone involved from the production of the product to it reaching consumers.

"In recent years, there has been an increasing realisation of the need for Australian Wineries to develop and maintain quality relationships with their suppliers of grapes. This is especially against the background of the realisation that quality relationships can reduce the level of transaction cost and improve efficiency in the supply chain. One important factor which has been considered as having the potential to enhance and sustain high quality business relationships is the price satisfaction, which measures the perception of the price levels that is paid to the farmers. "

Exploring the nature of price satisfaction in the Australian wine supply chain
The aim of this contribution is to explore the main dimensions of price satisfaction between the Australian grape growers and wineries, and determines its impact on overall price satisfaction.
Based on the results of the online interview with 396 Australian grape growers, we identify price transparency, relative price satisfaction, price quality ratio and price reliability as the main factors which influence grape growers satisfaction with the price.
We conclude that wineries need to focus on the psychological aspect of the price such as price information, stable prices as well as the process of price determination in order to enhance the perception of price fairness from the grape growers.

Supply chain economics/observations:

Your retail $15/bottle of imported wine contains at most wine costing $1-$1.50 (10% at most) at the winery level, and frequently less than $1 (6% of the retail price per bottle). We hope the consumers do not begrudge the growers/wine makers this pittance of total wine bottle cost. Packaging at least triples the winery cost to somewhere between $3 and $5, FOB some major port. - See more at: http://silkbush.com/learn-about-wine/reverse-wine-snobbery-w...

My take!

My take is that this is about the people/companies meeting demand and that need to know their market, and this can only be the producers or suppliers.
