TWINGE I am inclined to use the word "twinge" because it sounds milder than anything else that was mentioned here. That, in spite of the definition of twinge in the "Onelook Dictionary" being: "a sudden short feeling of emotion, especially an UNPLEASANT one".

Twinge is a great option IMO, unless of course they ARE referring to injections. I have a blood test every 6 months where they take 5 or 6 syringefulls and if they don't get it right, it can be painful, albeit only briefly.

Graham is definitely right, I believe.
A "pinchazo" usually means a "shooting pain" - but here, as it states that they're referring to something similar, but which doesn't qualify as "pain", I think we'd probably say something like "twinge".

Maybe, but in that case... ...the misuse of the word would be in the source text and not in the translation itself, where the definition of "pinchazo" you just quoted does not refer to what the author pretends to say. OR the "pinchazo" he is talking about has a different definition than the one you quoted.

according to the RAE pinchazo is a synonym for punzada which they define as "Dolor agudo, repentino y pasajero, pero que suele repetirse de tiempo en tiempo." It's a word my physio uses regularly when asking about the type of pain a patient is suffering. I've always thought of it as to something like a 'shooting pain'.

It's relative As Lisa just mentioned, I guess a shot (vaccine or otherwise) can be painful or not, depends on the person receiving it, depends on the person applying it. In any case, for the author, I think a 'shot' is not considered painful, even though for other persons it might be.

@ Yasser I get a vaccine for allergies every month, which I wouldn't consider painful, and had a tetanus a couple of weeks ago that I didn't even notice :-) But extracting blood is a bit different, more unpleasant. But extracting blood is not a 'jab' :)

pinchar This verb is used when talking about giving someone an injection, so I presume 'pinchazo' refers to an 'injection'.

There is no situation at all. The author is discussing what pain is, in general. Here, he says that pain has to be unpleasant. As "pinchazos" are not "unpleasant" (!!!!), they cannot be considered pain!

It's a common expression for 'shot'. Like: I was prescribed a penicillin shot.

The idea of what is unpleasant in this case is somewhat subjective. Some children cry when they are vaccinated, others don´t.

Pinchazo en zona frontal del muslo

Pues desde hace unos dias llevo molestias en el muslo izquierdo, justo en la parte central, entre la rodilla y la cintura. Es un pinchazo a modo de agujeta que a lo mejor se ha producido en el momento que he intensificado los cambios de ritmo en los entrenamientos.

I'll suggest you study the english meaning of minor injuries first then advice if a broken toe fits in.Yes! I'll say minor bone fracture,sprained ankle,cut finger,muscle tear are minor injuries and in Spain here we say un pinchazo nada mas.Cheers!!!
