soirée lunettes

This is for a Paris guide, in which local stores provide a short description of themselves. I have found photos online of events showing everyone wearing (weird) specs but am looking for a snappy appealing name for this kind of party!

Installé dans le (quartier), loin des grandes enseignes, xxxxxxxxx est un lieu de vie rythmé d’expositions, de soirées lunettes et de pauses café dans le jardin.

thamk you Alison For your helpful input
ormiston (asker) Jan 29, 2016:
good sleuthing! yes Alison, spot on (Bastille area). I have just had feedback : the event is more of a 'soirée créateur' /product presentation and the guests come to see what's on offer (drinks provided!). Unfortunately this invalidates some of the nice suggestions. Better to be clear than amusing here I think.
Alison MacG Jan 29, 2016:
A bit more context? From what I can tell from the clues you have given (and I have found a relevant 2015 guide online), the boutique in question is actually a trendy, vintage optician with its own workshop and café with garden. It regularly hosts events and I think the “soirées lunettes” are actually the parties/evenings the boutique hosts to celebrate the launch of a designer’s new collection. Still not sure about the best term to use in English, though …
ormiston (asker) Jan 28, 2016:
I am not at all sure that this is what these events are though

I have found 'specs party' along the lines of Tupperware gatherings

The Specs Party by The Specs Factory

The glasses party concept had been designed to give spectacle wearers an affordable, convenient and most-of-all enjoyable way to choose glasses and sunglasses.

Taking inspiration from the Tupperware concept a spectacle wearer will host a glasses party with the assistance of a 'glasses party' rep. They can invite any relatives, friends or colleagues who are interested in glasses or simply want to catch up with the host. The party could be during the day or in the evening and can fit around the host's requirements.

The glasses party gives spectacle wearers the chance see the latest glasses and sunglass styles in a comfortable environment with their friends, family or colleagues

...where people turn up wearing ridiculous glasses. Can't see the funny side really, but there is no accounting for taste. Lots of silly pictures on the www. as given in the reference comments.

Some ideas

Bespectacled spectacles/evenings.
Goggle gatherings.
Ocular socials.

:-)

Example sentence:

Situated in X far from the madding shopping disrticts, Y is a place buzzing with shows, bespectacled spectacles and coffee breaks in the garden.

soirées (or parties) for the (eye-)glasses-wearing crowd

I've heard the word "crowd" used in similar contexts, preceded by an adjective to defining a type of people.
Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : This is good. Maybe "fun soirées" to emphasise that they're not serious events.

"Lunettes et diverses fantaisies vous seront offertes !"

From the reference below, there seems to be a social club or organisation called "Soirée lunette" and the use of the singular "lunette" could refer directly to the moon (e.g. moonlit night).

Actually, without the exclamation mark in context, and maybe "specstacular" in inverted commas (wasn't aware it was used in the name of a UK TV programme)

specs and shades soirée

I would leave the french soirée-we are in Paris after all
and I like the way it alliterates with the 's' in specs and shades.

Specs is informally used for glasses and Shades also has the 'cool' factor as a hip word for sunglasses.

lunettes de soirée

Clearly a play on 'lunettes de soleil' and not for any practical purpose, simply an accessory.

Perhaps people wearing these can be found in the district described??
