Music Box Composer is a musical composing tool based on the physical 15, 20 and 30 note paper strip music boxes. It’s notes are sampled from actual music boxes and you can play and share your creations without requiring the physical music boxes at all, but it is designed as a direct aid to creating the punch strips used for the Mechanical Music Boxes.

The cylinder is the programming object, a metallic version of a punched card which instead of having holes to express a program, is studded with tiny pins at the correct spacing to produce music by displacing the teeth of the comb at the correct time.

Test the operation of the movement using the pre-punched strip enclosed. With the crank handle at your right, insert the strip into the slot facing you. The song starts where the title is printed. Feed the strip all the way into the slot as you turn the crank clockwise.
