Discussion

Tony M Mar 22, 2016:
@ Didier It is inductively powered AND activated at the same time; the two are inseparable. That's really why I feel 'energized' would have been a more explicit term; but these devices have SUCH low power consumption, the modern tendency is to talk more about the 'waking up' aspect and less about the powering.

And yes, it does derive enough power from the incoming RF to be able to respond.

Although it is hardly a 'transponder' in the classic sense of the word, this is indeed the correct terminology when talking about RFID and similar devices.
Didier Fourcot Mar 22, 2016:

English term (edited): are activated inductively

sont alimenté(e)s par induction

Standard RF pwoering techniques used typically in RFID applications.

Your source text appears to be either non-native EN, or contain a typo, as it clearly ought to be 'inductively'

'activated' here really has the meaning of 'energized', in the sense that not only are they 'woken up' by the incoming signal, but it actually powers them too.

Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : Technically incorrect: this is not an 'inductive load', and even if it were, it wouldn't be powering something, it's the other way round.
