CPL’s OASyS SCADA system is comprised of over 16 computer servers and 50 HMI’s.
Data communications to field hardware (RTUs, flow computers, programmable logic controllers – PLC’s) is accomplished through a variety of technologies – VSAT (satellite), terrestrial data circuits, radios and dial-up modems.
OASyS retrieves field data (pressures, flows, device status, alarms, etc.) at different intervals based on the particular pipeline and presents this data to the pipeline controllers.
OASyS also records historical data for trending and analysis.
Remotes on OASyS communicate with the SCADA system using various forms of communication media.
The two primary types used are terrestrial/frame relay and VSAT Very Small Aperture Terminals.
Approximately 70% of all SCADA remote locations communicate with the *CSC* via VSAT.
VSAT network reliability is typically at or above 99.6%.
Dial backup circuits are provided as an alternate path for certain remotes that communicate using VSAT.
The SCADA system provides dial backup capability to any VSAT remote that has an analog modem circuit installed in the field.
